In last 30 years there has been great evolving of genres like hard rock, heavy metal, modern instrumental, dark, gothic, black and their combinations.

Dark: musically very melodic with simple rhythms, not necessary slow, conceptually talking about love and death, heart suffering, described in non pathetic and very poetic way.

Gothic: in some ways very similar to dark, but more intense. Singing about heavy pains, musically very contrasting (gentle female vocal with rough guitars background or vice versa: rough male vocal with symphonic background. Sometimes duets with female lyric vocal and grunting male voice) that means relation between pain/hope, dark/light, hate/love, death/life, etc.

Black: in this concept has nothing to do with afro music, but with satanism, death and anti church concepts.

Vampires in poetry and art are considered as probably most romantic creatures. What makes them so fascinating is probably their malediction, creatures that can't die, can't see the sun, creatures that have to drink human blood to survive and most of all, their loneliness and enigma that makes them in certain way even sexually attractive.

* A common misconseption is that Samael is the god that the Cult worships. Actually, Samael means "fallen", referring to the biblical figure Lucifer, the fallen angel that God banished from Heaven. In other words, Samael is just another name for Satan. In the original Silent Hill Dahlia told Harry that the mark which was spread all over the "Otherworld" town was the mark of Samael, but as we learned in Silent Hill 3, that very mark is actually the Seal of Metatron which was believed to have anti-god properties. Saying, the Seal of Metatron was bad for this god figure the Cult worships. The first Silent Hill based on Alessa's nightmares and thus, it was Alessa who created the symbols around the town. This was merely her desperate act of trying to prevent the god from being born from her. Dahlia simply lied to Harry, letting him to believe that the mark was evil and gave him the "Flauros" which he should use when needed. Flauros was actually just an object to hasten the birth of the god and as Harry proceeded through the nightmare, he finally prevented Alessa, though unknowingly, from completing the Seal of Metatron which would have ended it all, or so Alessa and Dahlia believed. So, all that talk about Samael being the "god" in Silent Hill is false. If the god has a name, it has not been mentioned anywhere in the games. All we know that this god has two servants, Xuchilbara and Lobsel Vith, or more commonly known as Pyramid Head and Valtiel among Silent Hill fans.
